Celcom announced that it will launch Apple's iPhone 4

22 April 2011 – Celcom announced that it will launch Apple's iPhone 4 as part of its smartphone lineup, with prices starting at RM 248 for the 16GB model and RM 538 for the 32GB model.

For an industry that relies heavily on the first-mover advantage to stay ahead of the competition, Celcom firmly believes that being late is better than never.
The launching began with much excitement, as Celcom's Director of Marketing; Zalman Aefendy Zainal Abidin took the stage to showcase the already familiar iPhone 4. "We Saved the Best for Last” quipped Mr Zalman as an early response to the main question in the attendees’ minds; "Why so late?"

To justify Celcom's unhurried entry as a contender, the Zalman offered a number of reasons why customers should make the jump and sign up with them.

Among other things, Celcom is offering free talk time not only within their network but to other networks as well.

Free SMSes. Again, this is not limited only within Celcom's network but to other networks as well.

Celcom offers a whooping 6GB data plan that should satisfy even the most hardcore of users.

DSC_0284.JPG-2011-04-22-19-55.jpg
To sweeten the deal, Celcom will extend its warranty to up to 24 months.

Upon further questioning from the press, Celcom's Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Sri Shazalli Ramly added that the company wanted to ensure that its infrastructure was at an optimum level before finally launching the smartphone. With the deployment of its latest networks and touchpoints, Celcom is confident that it has what it takes to be the number one smartphone environment in the country. Furthermore, the company claims to have also revamped its call centres to be more iPhone-centric, so as to cater to queries from customers regarding the device. Note that these are available only for Executive users, with prices and rates for normal consumers to be revealed sometime a month later.

From my market information, main reason for the delay is because initially the negotiation with Apple is not in favor to Celcom. Furthermore, Celcom prefer Blackberry over iPhone. They just don’t want to be at the mercy of Apple.
However, Apple’s branding is too much to avoid. Celcom customers have churned to Maxis and Digi who have been offering iPhone packages. In addition, with the Mobile Number Portability (MNP), a Celcom customer don’t have to worry of changing their 019 or 013 number.

Remote HD Apple TV plugin installation

Good news for old Apple TV owners (yes, there are still some lovers of the ‘original’ shiny box of joy out there): App Dynamic, the same company that first brought AirPlay to the old Apple TV has just announced that AirPlay implementation on the 1st generation Apple TV is now complete as they have released a Remote HD update that enables AirPlay audio streaming to the old Apple TV as well as direct personal video streaming from iPhone’s camera roll. The new version also automatically installs Perian on AppleTV’s (if not installed already).

Check out this video for the instructions on how to install Remote HD Apple TV plugin.

[HOW-TO] - Unlock iPhone 4, 3GS on iOS 4.3.1 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.1

iPhone Dev-Team has released ultrasn0w 1.2.1 unlock to support iOS 4.3.1 unlock on old basebands and to fix signal issues which reported by some users after jailbreaking iPhone 4, 3GS on iOS 4.3.1

We’ve pushed out the 4.3.1 compatibility fix for ultrasn0w in Cydia — it’s now at version 1.2.1. If you’re not already at 4.3.1 and you need the unlock, please be sure you understand how to get to 4.3.1 using a custom IPSW that doesn’t update your baseband.

This isn’t a new unlock! It’s to allow those who are already unlocked to use FW 4.3.1. It also fixes the signal bar issue for those who aren’t using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally.

AFTER INSTALLING ULTRASN0W 1.2.1, PLEASE REBOOT YOUR iPHONE using the normal “slide to power off” swipe. T-Mobile users in the USA also should disable 3G mode in Settings->General->Network.
ONLY Supported basebands: (01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00)

iPhone 3GS preparation for unlock: you have to jailbreak and update your iPhone 3GS to 6.15.00 baseband on iOS 4.1 / 4.2.1 you can follow
this guide (Pwnage for Mac) or this guide (Redsn0w Mac and Windows)

Step 1: You have to jailbreak your iPhone 4 / 3GS on iOS 4.3.1 with preserving your old baseband, follow this guide (PwnageTool for Mac) of this guide (Sn0wbreeze Windows)

Step 2: Once you jailbreak yoour device, you can now unlock your iPhone 4 / 3GS with Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 from Cydia. To do so, follow the steps below:

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

[HOW-TO] - Enable Multi-touch Gestures on iPad without jailbreaking

We can find some guide on the Internet that show how to enable multi-touch gestures on iPad, but all of them request your iPad is jailbreaked, or need you own a Mac computer with XCode installed.
Now with iBackupBot, we can easily enable multi-touch gestures on iPad without jailbreaking:

What you need:
  1. 1. A PC computer with Windows XP/Vista/7 system, iTunes 10.2.1 installed.
  2. 2. An iPad or iPad 2 with iOS 4.3 or 4.3.1.
  3. 3. iBackupBot iTunes Backup Manager.
Then follow these steps:
  1. 1. Run iTunes, connect your iPad to computer, right click your iPad name in left window of iTunes and select Back Up.
  2. 2. After the backup process done, exit iTunes, run iBackupBot, select the newest backup of your iPad in left window of iBackupBot.
  3. 3. Double click Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist in right window of iBackupBot, it will pop up a plist editor window.
  4. edit-plist-2011-04-9-23-59.jpg
  5. 4. Add below two line under <dict> line:
<key>SBUseSystemGestures</key>
<true/>
  6. gestures1-2011-04-9-23-59.jpg
  7. 5. Click the Disk button to save changes then close the plist editor window. Notice: When saving changes, the program will re-sort the contents of plist file by key, so the 2 lines you just added may been moved to other place, you can press CTRL+F and enter SBUseSystemGestures to find it.
  8. 6. Press CTRL+T, the program will prompt “Do you really want restore this backup to your device?”, just click Yes button.
  9. 7. After the restore process done, your iPad will restart automatically, then you can enjoy the multi-touch gestures feature.
BTW: this method will not show the multi-touch gestures switch in option window of iPad, so if you want disable multi-touch gestures feature, you can find and delete the two line that you added in Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist then restore to iPad using iBackupBot.

Bugs Fixing Using Redsn0w 0.9.6rc12 4.3.1 Untethered Released

  • iPhone dev-team has just updated Redsn0w to version 0.9.6rc12 to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Redsn0w 0.9.6rc12 should fix any lingering issues with the boot animation.
  • The official change on the Redsn0w 0.9.6rc12:
Those running redsn0w may have noticed we enabled too many Settings options in some versions of the jailbreak (for instance, what you want your side switch to do, even if you have no side switch because you’re not using an iPad). Release rc10 rc12 of redsn0w corrects that (you can just run it over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).
  • Along the way, we’ve also added the option to enable boot animations…these animations can be installed via Cydia, but be sure to select which animation to use via the Settings->Bootlogo setting after you’ve downloaded an animation (and again, you can just run rc10 rc12 over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).
  • (The boot animation we tested against was “Android Boot Logo”. It correctly installs all the dependencies needed to run the animation at each boot).
  • You can follow our previous guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad for Windows and Mac.
  • Note: for who rely on ultrasn0w unlock please stay away from Redsn0w and iOS 4.3.1 until the dev-team fix the ultrasn0w on iOS 4.3.1.
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc12 (Windows)
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc12 (Mac)
Download iOS 4.3.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Download iTunes 10.2.1 for Windows / Mac OS X
